Meet Michelle Shomo Pierce

Michelle Shomo Pierce is a nationally recognized educator, speaker, mentor, and advocate for equity in tech education. She currently serves as the middle school computer science teacher at Mallard Creek STEM Academy in Charlotte, NC, where she also serves as a team lead, Girls Who Code facilitator, and teacher mentor/coach.
One of Michelle’s core strengths is building authentic relationships—with students, colleagues, and community partners—that foster trust, collaboration, and meaningful growth. Michelle is known for her leadership, communication skills, and the ability to engage audiences during public-speaking engagements. She has earned a reputation for authenticity, efficiency, and approachability, both with students and her peers. She is seen as a go-to resource for her peers, providing guidance and support, while using her expertise to foster collaboration and drive problem-solving.
Driven by a passion for equity and representation in computer science, Michelle creates engaging, culturally responsive learning experiences that reflect the diversity of her students. Through project-based learning, she empowers young people to explore real-world problems and envision themselves as future innovators and leaders in tech.
A committed lifelong learner, Michelle continuously seeks opportunities to grow, challenge the status quo, and amplify the voices of underrepresented communities in computer science. Her mission is clear: to make computer science accessible, inclusive, and meaningful for all students.
